"Lets see what happens!"

@RedRightHandARTS

...now let me show you what i do

CURRENT BUILDS!

The Lava Lamp

This will be the largest project to date. in theory it will be 12 fee tall, 5 1/2 feet across, and containing 1800 Neopixels in a cascading matrix, curtain.

The code i have been working on will mimic a multi color lava lamp with blobs of color coming in and out of the darkness.

Stay tuned for more!

LATEST PROJECTS:

Canny DeVito

Canny DeVito, to spite looking like it was designed by a couple of unattended 5 year olds. is going to be one of my most difficult engineering undertakings thus far.

The goal is to make a robot that is much more expressive, and the crux of that is my interaction with the Boston dynamics dog at discovery day 22. After watching them emote with all of their different movement capabilities, everyone looked at me and my fish like, ok... now you. and all i had was the ability to drive in a circle...

this year it will be different.

UPDATE: Discovery day 24 was amazing!

Johnathan Blow

Named after the creator of the indie game, Braid. Johnathan is the second giant wooden sea creature i have built for seemingly no reason. By that I mean that I am famous for saying that I have no idea what my inspiration was when deciding to build these things. however with this being the second one, at least i can say i was following a theme.

Johnathan not only had more layers and more moving parts, but also fulfilled the original idea of using hoverboard motors instead of regular DC for power and torque. meaning that the entire base had to be rebuilt and phil needed to be updated.

The JP Jeep Project

This was my plan for Halloween that didn't go according to plan but is still pretty cool and under upgrade. so the plan was to drive the jeep around my neighborhood with a bowl of candy to hand out to trick or treaters. in classic fashion i decided to upgrade the battery system a the last minit and the voltage regulator i used wasn't rated for the amperage draw of the jeep. which drained the capacitors and killed it in its tracks... yeah everyone was disappointed by that one, but im fixing it...

Phil Fish

Named after the developer of the indie game fez. Phil Fish was the first large scale robot that I have ever made. well... "robot", because it's more a RC car with a weird theme than a robot with a function. Like previously stated, I have no idea what my inspiration was for this, other than maybe wanting to make something that has lights, because I use neopixels in most of my projects. Regardless, the only thing I do remember is that I never questioned anything and just went forward full speed. not knowing how epic this project was till i took it out in public for the first time, and saw the reactions of others. I don't know why I have never been impressed with my own work. probably because i think if i can do it anyone can. Regardless, Phil ended up being like a really big deal and I can finally say that I have a distinct and original art style.

PopBot Battles

PopBots are a function of SWARMBOTS, which was a stem kit I built in 2020 to teach kids and beginners the basics of robotics and coding. They are ultrasonic obstacle avoiding robots running off a custom arduino shield that I created. The infrared remote plays multiple functions in many different game aspects of the robot as well, and it being a game was the main trick to all of it. i wanted to make a product that kids would be so excited about that they wouldn't realize they were learning... then i realized i don't know how to write instructions, and just use them to battle in my shop...

Don't be intimidated, it's actually very easy

Previous Work, and Accomplishments:

Arduino R4

So on a whim I tagged Arduino in a tiktok video and said I would be cool with them sharing my work. They were impressed and offered me the opportunity to test the new uno R4 that was getting released soon. Next thing I know I'm signing an NDA, that officially expired 58 minutes before I updated this section.
The moral of the story is, always take the shot!

PCBway.com Sponsorship

After posting a few videos of the fish to reddit. i get contacted by PCBway to see if i would be interested in doing a video for them in return for some free prints… of course i said yes.

The Dolphin meme

After the Fernville bridge collapse I was talking at work about all the memes coming out and someone said they wish they could make one with the bus swimming with dolphins. So I threw one together and posted it on reddit. By morning the news had gotten a hold of me asking for an interview, leading to one of the best titles i have ever been given...

Magic Wheelchair Metalica Project

fish.jpg

Scotty and the rest of the great people at Magic Wheelchair came through my shop with the "ride for Emily" chair. i couldn't let it leave without putting neopixel lightning underglow on it. it was a great project to be part of

more to come!
